People always wonder what is it that makes the most money for the casino, most probable answer is the ever tempting and seemingly innocent slot machines, the poker tables however even though grab most of the limelight, do not figure too high up when conjecturing the biggest earner for the casino. Here is an instance that seems to contradict the general opinion, where poker tables seem to be raking in much more profits for the casino than the slot games! The Sands Casino, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has recently been granted permission by the PGCB (Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board) to add eleven (11) table games to their current game floor raising the total to a hundred (100) table games that will go on to become the maximum in the entire state. Now, the twist in the tale is that all the table games that the Sands Casino will be poker based tables. This of course goes on to illustrate just how much profit poker earns the casino, as the poker table count at the Sands will go from twelve (12) to twenty three (23), almost double!
The president of Sands Casino, Robert DeSalvio said that as many players weren’t able to get spots as should, hence the move to add more poker tables, to provide more opportunities. Ironically though, the slot machines will be reorganized to make sufficient room for the extra poker tables.
The Sands Casino thanks to the table games has seen an exponential rise and now claims the honour of being the second biggest casino in the entire state with revenues from the table games reaching four million and eight hundred thousand us dollars ($4.8 million) in the last month, i.e. September. The action doesn’t just stop at the addition of the poker tables, the Sands Casino also plans to add a hotel to the casino property by the next year, this is sure to rocket the revenues sky high. The table games, especially poker, have gained immensely in popularity and have been the sole reason for the profit boom for the Pennsylvania casinos that were just limited to slot machines till this year.
